Ya like Jazz? How jazz can improve heart health in menopausal women.

Are you scared of what menopause holds in store for you? do you fear for your heart's ability to keep you alive as you age gracefully into your senior years? Well, I may just have the solution for you, my friend. Dance is a great way to stay active as it requires tons of stamina, muscle, and rhythm, plus it's really fun! But did you know it could maybe save your heart from cardiovascular disease? Let's find out how!
It is a widely established fact that women who are going through menopause are at a greater risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) (Fausto et al., 2025). Women in this age group often have a decline in their physical activity, which only increases their chance of heart issues. Regular exercise helps reduce the likely hood of catastrophic cardiac events as well as improving sleep and muscle tone (Fausto et al., 2025). Jazz dance is a great way to get in some fun physical exercise. The jazz technique includes explosive movements, high joint mobility, flexibility, stamina, and strength which are core elements of physical exercise. there is a lack of research surrounding jazz dance as a strong form of exercise and its ability to decrease CVD.
In this experiment, groups of women who were going through menopause were initially tested on a 6-minute walk test, which was supposed to measure their cardiorespiratory system. The women were tested at the start of the experiment and then tested again after a 16-week period of taking jazz dance classes. the results found that the women had vast cardiovascular and respiratory improvements and that the results steadily increased as the experiment went on (Fausto et al., 2025). Sleep was positively impacted as well showing an improved sleep quality over the course of the experiment (Fausto et al., 2025). And lastly, they found that the women's muscle tone increased (Fausto et al., 2025).
So, if you are fearful that menopause is going to be utterly damaging in all kinds of ways, maybe consider picking up a physical hobby like jazz dance. It may just save your heart someday.
